A rusty T's side opened up their 2017 account with a rather lacklustre victory against a depleted Rhayader side.
The game was in serious doubt up until the morning of the match but was deemed playable at 10am despite a heavy frost and temperatures of -6 overnight. Rhayader would have surely been glad after only managing to bring 13 players down to South Wales, this after rearranging for similar reasons a fortnight previously.
The pitch started hard, unlike the home side who struggled to break down a determined Rhayader bunch. However, a flurry of tries started when a blind offload by number 8 Trappy put Scott Southall over unopposed. This was followed by two tries from strike runner Donk through the middle.
The half ended with the T's under pressure to gain a bonus point before the rapidly freezing pitch became unplayable. This was eventually gained after much toil by skipper Baz in the corner before the game was indeed called early. The T's reflected on a rather insipid display, knowing big improvement was required before visiting runaway leaders Crickhowell a week later...
Still, there was a time when the T's were glad of any win. It shows how far this bunch have come.
Website MoM: Scott Southall. Scored a try and generally had a hand in getting the T's moving forward.
