T’s gain best win over Trefy

Tref-y-Clawdd arrived in Abertillery with clear intent. Whilst T’s arrived in dribs and drabs, the visitors enjoyed a united warm up and made their thin numbers look like a squad. They even had a bus!

T’s started the better, the pack gaining ground in collisions and early prominence in the scrums (last game’s utility 10 now at loose head).

T’s switched the direction of attack, working left and right and eventually putting Morgan away in the corner.

T’s failed to capitalise on their dominance in the scrum and line out.  So, when control of the purple patch switched to Tref, they adroitly played their way up to the T’s line. Wisely avoiding the set piece, they kept the ball in hand and tested T’s resolute tackling.

Eventually, their close quarter work saw them pick and go and level scores. Young Chiv then added a penalty for the home side.

HT 8-5

With both teams utterly failing to keep the score board ticking over, and gallons of horizontal rain whipping down the valley at half time, the second half promised to be a torrid affair.

However, the elements slackened and the T’s scrum gained even more prominence as the visitors tired. Also, trim-Josh and Dan dominated the line out. Even an unsupported Lurch pilfered one ball. Generally T’s employed rips, jackals, counter rucks to great effect to stop Trefy building a threat.

Pressure eventually told with the Ebbw Vale based French imported goal hanger going over twice to add to another Chivers penalty.

Man of the Match was awarded to Morgan. He covered well and kicked astutely from the back to put us in great positions.
