T's finally break their duck against borderers.

A depleted Tref y Clawdd came down to the Roseheyworth to face a T's outfit somewhat flying high in the 3D East table.

With only 13 travellers, the home side gave young Hywel Smith a chance to play a 'full 80' to support Tref's cause.

The pre game talk centred around playing as normal, ignoring the extra man and playing 'properly'. But, somewhat inevitably the T's started without intensity.

It wasn't until a marvellous break from midfield by flanker Dan Went took the T's close to the line that the home side really threatened. This should've resulted in a try but for some indecision and an early tackle not penalised.

The field position eventually yielded a score when some clean ball got to fly half Greg Powell who made a marvellous dummy to outwit the Tref covering defence. He passed to number 8 Gareth Trapnell who put centre Matthew Fowler in. The conversion was missed by Chris Davies.

The T'a played some good stuff in this period and threatened to put the visitors away. Indeed, soon after Powell put returning second row Steve Hillman in this time converted.

Sensing a bonus point victory, much of the middle hour of the game descended into abject tactics and poor handling. The home pack, perhaps lacking fitness or goal hanging or both failed to do the basics allowing Tref to spoil.

It wasn't until late on when T's scored again. A line out inside the visitors' 22 was powerfully driven onto and over the try line only for a T's forward to inexplicably drop on the ball short of the line. Luckily the resulting possession was recycled through a couple of phases before Trapnell, now playing at scrum half, nipped in around the fringes.

A win sealed, T's went to sleepy and allowed the plucky visitors to run in a try through the middle as a consolation. Generous souls as ever.

A win is a win, up to the heady heights of 4th in the table but much improvement required for the visit to Girling next week. Big game.
